Maker is a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) that is built on the Ethereum blockchain. It enables the creation of a stablecoin called Dai, which is pegged to the value of the U.S. dollar. Maker uses a unique system of collateralized debt positions (CDPs) to mint new Dai coins, which are backed by a variety of cryptocurrencies. The MakerDAO community governs the platform, and decisions are made through a consensus mechanism.
